Honey spoon. A familiar object rethought.

Reaching the last of the honey.

Designed by Michele Venisti for Domuspop, this wooden honey spoon reinterprets the traditional honey dipper. Its lengthwise cut and hollow interior help collect honey even when the jar is almost empty.

The project

Rethinking a familiar gesture.

The starting point is an instantly recognisable object: the honey dipper with its grooved head. The design keeps that visual reference while changing the part that enters the jar, opening it up to create a hollow surface.

The idea comes from a specific moment of use: when little honey remains and it needs to be collected from the bottom. Cut in half, the familiar shape becomes a spoon, offering a concave surface for scooping. The change makes its new purpose clear while preserving the connection with the original object.

The design detail

Two surfaces, one utensil.

One side retains the grooves of a traditional honey dipper; the other forms a hollow bowl for collecting honey. The relationship between these two surfaces is the central design detail: the same head can be read as a grooved dipper or as a spoon.

A continuous curve connects the handle to the head. The wood grain follows the profile and preserves the utensil’s familiar, domestic character. For Domuspop, the project turns the observation of a small limitation in use into a practical change of form.
